- Division Chief, Community Resources Division - 5/02 - 10/03
Responsible for partnership building, community activities, neighborhood
problem solving, and public relations. Worked with representatives of Faith,
Hispanic, African American and Asian communities to improve police-community
relations.
- Division Chief, Investigations Division - 1/96 - 4/02
Commanded a division staffed by detectives, civilians and volunteers. Division
includes three sections, Crimes Against Persons, Crimes Against Property,
and the Crime Lab.
- Captain, Information Management Division - 1/94 - 1/96
Division is comprised of the Communications Section, Records Section, and
Planning and Analysis Unit staffed by sworn and civilian employees. The
Communications Section provides enhanced 911 service for all emergencies
in the city, as well as emergency and operational communications for the
police department. The Records Section is the primary information management
center for city police, other law enforcement agencies, and the public.
The Planning and Analysis Unit is responsible for crime analysis functions,
coordinating preparation of the annual budget, coordinating police computer
and technical needs, and providing research and analysis services for various
divisions and sections of the police department.
- Captain, Intelligence Division - 1/93 - 12/93
The division gathers intelligence on individuals and groups, and investigates
vice and narcotics violations, liquor code violations, organized crime
activity, and hate crimes. Personnel analyze criminal activity and perform
background investigations for liquor licenses, towing operators, pawn shops,
adult businesses, and massage parlors. Captain, Administrative Services
Division - 11/90 - 12/92 The division includes internal affairs, training,
budget, police records, property and evidence sections.
- Lieutenant - 6/79 - 11/90
Served in the Criminal Investigation, Internal Affairs and Patrol Divisions.
Responsibilities included the direct supervision of police sergeants and
agents. Specific duties involved planning, coordinating and directing patrol
activities, suppressing criminal activities, and providing numerous types
of public services to citizens. In the Investigations Division, directed
the Crimes Against Persons Section comprised of sergeants and detectives
assigned to robbery/homicide, sex crimes, general assignment and juvenile
crimes. Performed follow up criminal investigations of reported crimes.
With Internal Affairs, investigated misconduct complaints against officers
and civilian employees of the department. Investigated all police involved
shootings and integrity of the department.
- Sergeant - 3/73 - 6/79
Served as Sergeant in the Patrol, Investigative, Intelligence Undercover,
Internal Affairs and Crime Prevention Divisions. As an Undercover Intelligence
Officer, supervised special operations, namely the fencing of stolen merchandise.
In Crime Prevention, supervised the Burglary Reporting and Neutralization
Detail. Conducted a burglary and robbery investigation in a designated
area under a federal grant. Supervised arson and bomb investigations. In
Investigations, assigned team members to theft, auto theft, burglary, arson
and bomb investigations. Supervised an undercover fencing operation which
was a joint venture between Lakewood, Aurora and Denver police and resulted
in the arrest of 26 suspects and the recovery of $103,000 in stolen goods.
- Police Agent - 12/70 - 3/73
Served in the Patrol, Investigations and Intelligence Divisions. Assigned
to the Denver Police Department's Airport Intelligence Unit based at Stapleton
International Airport. Later assigned to a special investigative unit of
the Denver Police Department working out of the Chief of Police's office.
Unit recovered $200,000 worth of property and arrested the DBA burglary
ring. The unit was also directly involved in capturing the "Grocery
Store Extortionist."
