Procedural: Summary Judgment
{N/R} Summary judgment is granted as to
all defendants on all of the plaintiffs' 1983 claims of failure to supervise,
failure to intervene or protect, denial of medical treatment, unlawful
retaliation for First Amendment conduct, negligent infliction of emotional
distress and negligence. The ruling affected 9 separate lawsuits arising
from a 1995 incident between more than 200 plaintiff members of the Universal
Calvary Church and 22 individually named NYPD officers and NYC officials.

appeals court did not have jurisdiction to review trial court's denial
of county's summary judgment motion in federal civil rights case Swint
v. Chambers County Commission, 115 S.Ct. 1203 (1995).
Federal trial judge improperly granted summary
judgment to defendant police officers in civil rights lawsuit when he failed
to state his reasons for issuing the order. Sims v. Lucas, 9 F.3d 1293
(7th Cir. 1993).
