Foreign Language Requirements

     Federal judge rejects a civil rights suit brought by two Hispanic investigators who had sued their employer because they were required to use Spanish while on duty. Morales v. Human Rts. Div., 878 F.Supp. 653 (S.D.N.Y. 1995). [1995 FP 134-5]
     Federal court rules that police dept. did not have to pay premium compensation to bilingual officers who were required to use their language skills. Cota v. Tucson Police Dept., 783 F.Supp. 458, 58 FEP Cases (BNA) 1565 (D.Ariz. 1992). [1992 FP 123]
     Hispanic patrol officer could not refuse to interview a witness in Spanish; lack of formal training irrelevant. Yanis v. McGuire, 469 N.Y.S.2d 736 (A.D. 1983).
